Introducing Erica Sin, ArborBridge's New Director of Enrollment and Student Relations

If you had told me 10 years ago that my work would be in test preparation, I would have looked at you and said, “That’s an industry?” My road here has taken a couple exploratory detours, but it is one that I’m happy I took.

As a second generation Korean-American growing up in Los Angeles, there were always high expectations when it came to education and career. Doing well in school was a non-negotiable value, presumably intended to steer me towards a solid career as a doctor or a lawyer. I think my first act of “rebellion” was telling my mother that I wanted to work in advertising, mostly because that’s what all the cool people in TV and movies did.

Post-UCLA, I ventured into two very different fields: entertainment, then insurance. The shock in transitioning from the former to the latter took me straight into a quarter-life crisis, which led me to the place that so many turn to: law school. I searched high and low for the best company possible to help me tackle the LSAT for law school admissions. This gave me my first glimpse into the world of test prep. What set the company I decided on apart? Not only did they provide me with amazing tools to do well on the test, but they also genuinely cared about my progress and did whatever they could to help me improve.

More soul-searching brought me to the conclusion that law school was not for me, but my test prep experience had left a lasting impression on me. With this, I came to work for the very company that had prepared me for the LSAT and subsequently spent 6 ½ years there. My end goal was to recreate the incredible experience that I had during my own preparation.

And now begins my adventure at ArborBridge as Director of Enrollment and Student Relations. Working with students, parents, and counselors, I hope to facilitate an environment where the student feels supported from every angle. I want them to see success as John Wooden defined it:

"Success comes from knowing that you did your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming."

  • To help students discover their potential.
  • To help students realize that potential.

These are my goals in coming to ArborBridge. I welcome the opportunity to help students achieve their academic goals, and perhaps even learn a little something about themselves!
