Even the best students sometimes realize their grades aren’t where they’d like them to be. The good news is there are several things you can do to boost your grades.
Depending on how much time is left in the semester, consider taking the following steps:
Make a list of your classes, and consider how you’re doing in each one. Identify which classes you need to boost your grades in and figure out your greatest areas for improvement.
You may discover easy opportunities for picking up points. Did you forget to turn in any assignments? Are there assignments you can redo or revise for a higher grade? A few points here and there can really add up and make all the difference.
Identify what you need to get done in each of your classes and how much time you’ll need for each assignment. Use a calendar to set deadlines and map out your upcoming tests and assignments.
Classes in which you're underperforming may be your best opportunities to make significant gains. Figure out where to start by focusing on the tasks that are most important and most urgent.
Evaluate what’s working and what’s not working for you. Do you work more effectively at certain times of day than others? Are there distractions that interrupt your progress and prevent you from staying focused? Do you take enough breaks along the way? Try adjusting your routines for a couple of weeks and then reevaluating.
It never hurts to ask your teachers if there are opportunities for extra credit, outstanding assignments you can still turn in, or any assignments you can redo for more points. The key is to let your teachers know you’re motivated to improve. Many teachers appreciate proactive students and will be willing to help you identify your next steps.
